Take Off was commissioned by the Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010 organizing committee. It stands outside the players' entrance to the Thunderbird Winter Sports Centre in Vancouver. The piece captures the movement of a mallard duck as it flies off the water in its typical fast ascension into the sky. There is a painting of a hockey goalie in pigments and gold leaf on top of the copper leaf background. Take Off is constructed out of car fenders taken from a Volvo. The selection in 2009 of this automobile was related to the possibility of a Canadian and Swedish gold-medal playoff in the 2010 Winter Olympics.
