The Flight of the Hummingbird - Vancouver Opera

This enchanting original opera is an environmental fable about moral courage. The story encourages doing what we can for our planet – a fitting call to action for these turbulent times. In the opera, the animals of the forest are inspired to come together by Dukdukdiya, the Hummingbird, to save their beautiful home from a raging fire.

Learning and acknowledging the history of a story shows respect for Indigenous peoples and recognizes their enduring relationship to the land. It also helps to raise awareness about the history of colonization and its role in suppressing Indigenous culture. Based on the book Flight of The Hummingbird by Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas, Pacific Opera Victoria and Vancouver Opera are thrilled to present an original opera for all ages.
